We won’t be ignored: striking community, health and social services workers drop banners from bridges and highway overpasses across Ontario

In a coordinated province-wide action, striking OPSEU/SEFPO members dropped Worth Fighting For banners from bridges and overpasses on Monday morning, drawing attention to their ongoing fight.  

Monday marks the beginning of week seven of their historic strike – a coordinated fight for funding for the future of vital services that some of the most vulnerable people in Ontario rely on. 

While these striking workers work for 23 different organizations and agencies, they all share the same funder: the provincial government. Years of underfunding – combined with wage suppression under the Ford government’s unconstitutional Bill 124 – have left workers struggling to keep up, and the people who rely on these services are falling through the cracks. 

Wearing their purple shirts and dropping the banners with slogans like “Support us so we can support others,” “Fund community services” and “Social services are worth fighting for” workers sent clear messages in communities across Ontario: they won’t back down.  

In recent weeks, workers have taken their message everywhere – from MPP offices and community events to Ford Fest and even Premier Doug Ford’s cottage. Today’s coordinated banner drops are the latest creative action, keeping pressure on the Ford government to fund community, health and social services, deliver stolen wages, and end the strike.
